Recently, East Windsor NJ Volunteer Fire Company installed a “Tools of the Trade” limited edition sculpture.
Sitting atop of a concrete base, this edition showcases a bronze and buffed bronze helmet, decorated with a custom shield. The fire ax has a finish in buffed bronze as well, with these accents throughout the piece. The quality of the bronze is so high, this sheen will stay with the sculpture.
This piece is special, sitting on top of the concrete pillar that reads “A Fireman’s Prayer.”
One of my favorite parts of my work is to see the creativity, thought, and memorial each department pours in to their sculpture. It makes every piece special for me to craft, and creates an emotional bond for all those who are part of that fire family.
A Fireman’s Prayer
When I am called to duty, God, whenever flames may rage, give me strength to save some life, whatever be its age. Help me embrace a little child before it is too late, or save an older person from the horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout, and quickly, and efficiently to put the fire out. I want to fill my calling, and to give the best in me, to guard my every neighbor and protect his property. And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life, please bless with your protecting hand my family, friends and wife.
